SCHOOLS

Through inspiring students we can make a powerful difference.

With a greater understanding of the challenges we face in protecting our ecological biodiversity and the real dangers of a rapidly changing climate, the chances of success increase exponentially.

Your classroom or school can participate by hosting Rainforest Rescue fundraisers and facilitating educational & tree planting programs. This inspires communities to get behind their kids to Protect Rainforests Forever, for everyone.

It’s easy for schools to fundraise for the rainforest, be it a class challenge, holding a bake sale or read-a-thon, manning a stall about rainforests at your school fete, or raising funds in place of birthday presents. Fundraising is also a fun way of sharing your passion for the environment with your friends. For some Forest Fundraiser ideas, click here.

Looking for some printable children’s activities? Our friends at EnviroPrint Australia created a fun Cassowary activity sheet consisting of four different activities and some fast facts about these beautiful birds. Your students will love channeling their inner artist when they colour-in their very own Cassowary masterpiece, thanks to our friends at Pembroke Graphics.

We welcome your ideas and opportunities that will help plant, preserve & protect rainforests and their inhabitants. Together we can inspire and teach students about the tremendous value of rainforests and their role in protecting life on Earth.

Educational Resources

Upschool

Upschool, an Australian-based online education platform, is focused on delivering quality education that inspires students to realise their potential to improve the world.

Their platform, www.upschool.co, seeks to provide purposeful education for a better tomorrow, using the power of education and accessibility afforded by technology to encourage young people to use their learning as a tool to improve their lives and the lives of others. Aligned with the Australian curriculum, Upschool’s lessons and learning materials are all completely free, pre-recorded, and self-paced, meaning everything can be done at a time and place that suits teachers, parents, and students.

One course, Write a Book to Change the World, involves children across the world planning, writing, and illustrating their own picture books on topics that matter to them. Completed books are then published in a global online library with an option to purchase physical copies, with a portion of proceeds funding a charity project selected by the author, including projects undertaken by Rainforest Rescue.

Another course, It Starts With You, was filmed entirely from the Arctic and involves an exploration of this unique environment and its importance to all life on Earth, encouraging a deeper connection between students and the natural world. There are a number of courses, resources, and learning tools available to everyone on the Upschool platform, complete and at no cost.

Wet Tropics Management Authority (WTMA)

The Wet Tropics Management Authority (WTMA), formed in 1992, fulfills Australia’s international obligation to protect, conserve, present, rehabilitate and pass on the World Heritage Area to future generations.

WTMA is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments. They maintain strong community networks and collaborate with land managers, including Traditional Owners, and conservation, research, tourism, and community sectors.

Through these partnerships, WTMA works towards addressing a range of natural and human-induced threats to this irreplaceable natural resource.

Importantly, WTMA encourages partners, communities, and visitors to the region to protect this special place for future generations.

Check out Wet Tropics Management Authority’s website for educational resources and information for kids about cassowaries.
