The North Coast Regional Botanic Garden (NCRBG) in Coffs Harbour has installed a new digital record-keeping system which is yielding significant results. Using Hortis, a modern, cloud-based platform recommended by Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand, the garden’s meticulously kept records of its 5000-strong plant collection, are being brought into the digital age 🧑💻💚.
The team has already rediscovered crucial historical data regarding two Syzygium glenum trees, a critically endangered species endemic to Cooper Creek in the Daintree Rainforest.

Imagine protecting a piece of the oldest rainforest on Earth. Now imagine knowing YOU helped make that happen 💚.
We have a rare chance to protect nearly 12 hectares of untouched Daintree Rainforest - home to endangered wildlife like the Southern Cassowary, Spotted-Tail Quoll, and Bare-Rumped Sheathtail Bat.
This isn’t just land - it’s ancient, living heritage. It’s habitat. It’s hope.
By donating, you’ll help us buy Lot 8 Idriess Close and permanently protect it as a Nature Refuge. And right now, your impact will be doubled thanks to the @treadright Foundation, matching every dollar up to $50,000.
You can be part of something lasting. You can be the reason this rainforest - and the life it holds - is protected forever.
Act now. Protect what can`t protect itself.
Donate today at www.rainforestrescue.org.au/lot-8 💚.

Did you know? For 40 million years after Australia split from Gondwana, much of the continent was covered in lush rainforest 🌿. Hard to imagine, given that today, over 20% is arid desert .
As the climate dried, rainforests shrank - surviving only in pockets like the Daintree, a living window into ancient Australia’s rich natural history.

#CritterCorner: Southern Cassowary chicks (Casuarius casuarius johnsonii) rely entirely on their father for food and protection during their early months.
By 4–5 months old, the chicks begin to shed their striped plumage, which is replaced by longer brown feathers - an early resemblance to the sleek black plumage of adult cassowaries. Around this time, their wattles begin to develop, turning a pale pink, and the distinctive casque starts to emerge.
Although still under Dad’s watchful eye, juvenile cassowaries start to forage and explore more independently, often alongside their siblings.

Today is International Day of Plant Health day 💚.
We want to help raise global awareness of how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, enriching the lives of everyone on Earth.
Plants are life. We depend on them for 80% of the food we eat and 98% of the oxygen we breathe. But we lose as much as 40% of crops to pests, setting back global efforts to ensure food security, harming precious biodiversity and impacting economies and livelihoods. This year, the International Day of Plant Health calls on everyone to help raise awareness and take action to keep plants, animals, humans and the environment healthy 💚.

Cyclone Jasper tested it, but Nature fought back 💚.
After the 2023 cyclone tore through the region, Lot 8 Idriess Close stood strong. While some ancient trees were lost, native species are already regenerating. And remarkably no invasive weeds have taken hold.
This is what ecological resilience looks like. This is a rainforest that knows how to heal - if we give it the chance.
Donate today and your gift will be doubled — matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000 thanks to The @treadright Foundation.
Let’s honour this incredible natural comeback with permanent protection: www.rainforestrescue.org.au/lot-8 💚.

If we’re going to restore more rainforest and help fight climate change, we need to plant more trees. And to plant more trees - we must first grow them 🌱🌳.
Thanks to your incredible support, we’re increasing native tree production in the Daintree! This massive boost will breathe life into new restoration projects, helping the Daintree grow in size and strength - and protecting its unique biodiversity for generations to come.

#CritterCorner: The Little Waterfall Frog (Ranoida lorica) is a tiny, critically endangered amphibian that made a comeback from extinction, defying all the odds 🐸.
This isn`t just another cute animal - it`s a key indicator species.
Amphibians are highly sensitive to environmental changes, meaning their health reflects the health of the ecosystem. If these frogs disappear, it could signal deeper problems! And we must pay attention.

The Daintree is both incredibly unique in its concentration of animals and plants, as well as extremely diverse. For example, snakes! Most of the snakes seen in the rainforest are harmless, though some do obtain very impressive lengths.
The amethystine python (Morelia amethistina) - also known locally as a scrub python - has been confirmed to grow to over 5m in length, but anecdotal accounts suggest some larger individuals 😲.
They can often be seen sun baking in the tree tops 🐍☀️.
Have you seen one recently?

Precious birds on the road! Many people now live among cassowaries or are visiting areas where they live, which can put these beautiful Daintree dwellers at risk.
Road accidents are the leading cause of cassowary mortality in Queensland. Please drive safely in cassowary country and be alert for cassowary crossing signs and the birds themselves. Do not throw rubbish or feed cassowaries from your vehicle. Alert oncoming drivers to cassowaries on the road by flashing your headlights.
Cassowaries are most active in the early morning and late afternoons but may be encountered at any time of day. When driving through cassowary habitat, particularly around Mission Beach, Bramston Beach, Coquette Point, Etty Bay, Paluma, and Cape Tribulation, please drive with care and BE CASS-O-WARY 💚.
