Welcoming the Wet Tropics Restoration Alliance ASG members for 2025–2027
We are pleased to announce the new members of the Wet Tropics Restoration Alliance Steering Group (ASG) for the 2025–2027 term:
- Mr Peter Rowles (C4)
- Prof. Susan Laurance (James Cook University)
- Mr Branden Barber (Rainforest Rescue)
- Mr Barnaby Swan (ClimateForce)
- Mr Dennis Ah-kee (Jaragun Ecoservices)
- Mr Keith Smith (Biodiversity Legacy)
- Dr Ana Palma (Independent)
In their report, the Independent Selection Committee noted the calibre and number of applicants.
We appreciate all who put forward an application. Your passion for restoration and stewardship is a true reflection of the diversity and resilience of our Alliance community.
What is the role of the ASG?
The Alliance Steering Group plays a vital role in guiding the Wet Tropics Restoration Alliance. Its purpose is to:
- support delivering an annual member-endorsed workplan
- provide strategic advice to advance the Alliance’s objectives
- ensure the issues and interests of members are reflected in Alliance activities
- participate in workshops, field days and working groups
- act as champions for restoration in the Wet Tropics region.
ASG members meet quarterly (online or in person) and contribute their skills and perspectives across science, restoration, First Nations knowledge, natural capital, sustainable land management, and community engagement.
Next steps
The inaugural meeting of the new committee is planned for September 2025. Founding members of the Alliance -the Tropics Management Authority, James Cook University and Terrain NRM will also participate: Key items include:
- Induction for new members
- Review of progress against the 2025 workplan and priorities for the 2026 workplan, and
- Planning for the Wet Tropics Restoration Alliance ANNUAL event (27 November)
We warmly welcome our new ASG members and look forward to working together to strengthen the Wet Tropics Restoration Alliance and supporting the goals of its members.
