Celebrating Community at Ecofiesta and the Mossman NAIDOC Parade
Our Daintree-based team recently stepped out of the rainforest and into the community, taking part in Cairns Ecofiesta and, closer to home, the Mossman NAIDOC Parade. Both events gave us the opportunity to connect face-to-face with the people who make conservation in Far North Queensland possible: you.
Whether it’s a sustainability festival or a cultural celebration, days like these are a reminder that protecting the Daintree Rainforest isn’t just about hectares and title deeds: it’s about relationships. Every conversation at a stall, every question from a curious young person, every local who tells us they’ve been inspired to plant a tree in their own backyard — that’s the ripple effect of community events, and it’s every bit as important as the land we restore and protect.
Ecofiesta: Sustainability, Far North Style

Ecofiesta brought together locals, families, and community organisations for a day dedicated to celebrating sustainable living in the tropics. From hands-on activities to conversations about protecting the Daintree Rainforest, people came together to learn, share ideas and connect with others who care about the environment. Our stall was a hub of activity, with visitors dropping by to:
- Chat with our team about our land purchase and rainforest restoration work;
- Make an insect hotel to take home and install in their backyard;
- Learn how even a small block of rescued rainforest contributes to a much larger wildlife corridor; and
- Browse our Plant a Rainforest merchandise, with proceeds supporting rainforest conservation.
Events like Ecofiesta matter because conservation isn’t just about the trees we plant – it’s about the community that comes together to support this work. Seeing so many familiar and new faces stop by for a chat about the Daintree’s future was one of the highlights of the day.

NAIDOC Week: Keeping the Fire Burning in Mossman
2026 NAIDOC in the Park, Mossman Qld – 📷 Rainforest Rescue
Douglas Shire’s NAIDOC Week celebrations closed out with the Mossman street parade and NAIDOC in the Park — a milestone occasion this year, marking NAIDOC’s 50th anniversary. The parade stepped off from Front Street on a picture-perfect sunny morning, with music, dancing, and community floats making their way through town to George Davis Park for an afternoon of celebration.
Rainforest Rescue was proud to set up a stall once again, joining the celebration of First Nations culture, history, and resilience that defines NAIDOC Week. It’s a privilege to be invited into this space each year. It’s a reminder that Caring for Country and rainforest conservation are deeply connected, rooted in the same respect for land and culture. Our team spent the day chatting with visitors, sharing our work, and soaking up the infectious energy of the parade.
We’re especially grateful to everyone involved in organising the day and for continuing to welcome Rainforest Rescue as part of this important community celebration.
