Rainforest Rescue Named a RestorLife Awards Finalist

In Conservation, News, Nursery, Rainforest Research, Restoration

We’re honored – and grateful – to share that Rainforest Rescue has been named a finalist in the 2025 RestorLife Awards.

These awards celebrate some of the most inspiring and impactful restoration projects happening around the globe – and this year, we’re privileged to be part of that story. Out of many applications, only a small number were chosen as finalists, and it means a lot to see our work in the Daintree recognised on this international stage. You can meet all of the finalists here.

The RestorLife Awards are hosted by the leading digital network for Nature Positive Action, Restor. They shine a spotlight on the people and projects driving forward the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030) – the world’s largest-ever collective effort to heal nature. Restoration is now recognised globally as essential for climate resilience, biodiversity, and human well-being – and it’s at the heart of what we do.

Worldwide momentum is building, not only through the UN’s leadership but also with initiatives like the G20 Global Land Initiative, which brings the largest economies together to scale up land restoration. To have Rainforest Rescue’s work included among projects aligned with these global priorities reinforces something we’ve always believed: local action in the Daintree is part of a worldwide movement to repair and protect the planet we all share.

And while this is an international honour, it’s also something Douglas Shire can be proud of. This region is the steward of Australia’s largest and most biodiverse rainforest – the Daintree – which is also the world’s oldest surviving and evolving rainforest. Our work here doesn’t just protect a local treasure; it contributes to global efforts to restore critical ecosystems and safeguard life on Earth.

Finalists Spotlight

What makes this recognition so special is the incredible company we’re in. This year’s finalists are doing extraordinary work across the globe: Agro Rangers (India), Bangalow Koalas Inc. (Australia), Ecoporé – Ação Ecológica Guaporé (Brazil), Green Tree Foundation (India), IPE – Instituto de Pesquisas Ecológicas (Brazil), LEAD Foundation (Tanzania), Madagasikara Voakajy (Madagascar), Nature and People as One – NaPO (Kenya), Pronatura Veracruz AC (Mexico), SayTrees Environmental Trust (India), Sustainable Green Initiative (India), Tree Adopt Uganda (Uganda), Wild Survivors (Tanzania), Yayasan Gambut (Indonesia), and Yayasan Puge Figo (Indonesia).

From Brazil to Kenya, India to Indonesia, these organisations are proving that restoration is not only possible, but also already happening – in communities, on farms, in forests, and across entire landscapes. Standing alongside them reminds us that we are part of something much bigger – a global stewardship of changemakers united in restoring nature at the scale the planet needs.

At Rainforest Rescue, our mission has always been about more than protecting intact biodiverse Daintree habitat and planting trees. It’s about life. It’s about rebuilding habitats, reconnecting fragmented rainforest, and protecting the extraordinary species that call the Daintree home.

Being recognised as a RestorLife finalist tells us that what we’re doing here in Douglas Shire is part of a growing worldwide push – one that’s now recognised by the UN, the G20, and a rapidly expanding movement of people determined to leave the planet better than we found it.

This recognition belongs to everyone who stands with us – our supporters, partners, Traditional Owners, and volunteers – and to a region that treasures and protects one of the most extraordinary rainforests on Earth. Together, we are restoring rainforest for climate, for biodiversity, for future generations… For life.
