ABOUT RAINFOREST RESCUE
Rainforest Rescue is a not-for-profit organisation purchasing high conservation value rainforest at risk of development, rescuing these properties and protecting them, forever. They also deliver restoration work through tree planting, transforming degraded properties back into lush rainforest and thriving habitats. So far, 35 properties have been saved by Rainforest Rescue in the Daintree lowlands, where they remain forever protected and out-of-reach of threatening activities.
ABOUT BIOPAK
BioPak creates compostable packaging designed for a circular economy where there is no waste. It starts with responsibly sourced materials, continues with environmentally certified manufacturing processes, and ends with disposal options that see resources reused or regenerated. BioCups are made from plants, certified carbon-neutral and can be industrially composted where facilities exist.

On 17 May, 183 legends came together to plant the final 3,300 trees at NightWings Rainforest Centre - our last Annual Community Planting Day at this incredible site!
Since 2015, this epic restoration project has seen over 115,000 trees planted. What a journey 🌳💚

We were thrilled to welcome Mayor Lisa Scomazzon and Douglas Shire Councillors when they visited our Native Nursery and restoration sites recently.
From checking out our `Beneficial Bugs` pilot and coir planter trials to planting trees and talking shared stewardship, this visit was a great reminder that restoring the Daintree is a community effort 💚.

#CritterCorner: The Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius johnsonii) is a beloved Rainforest Gardener 🌳🌳🌳.
They help maintain the balance and diversity of their rainforest home through the role of seed disperser.
Cassowaries are known to eat the fruit of at least 238 plant species, of which 149 are woody trees, leaving undamaged seeds in a “compost heap” of dung as they roam the rainforest 💩🌱.

The Daintree is Australia’s largest and most biodiverse rainforest, and it’s existed far longer than any other rainforest on the planet 🌳🌳🐌🍄.
Right now, amongst many other threats, habitat fragmentation makes it difficult for plants and animals to move from one rainforest patch to another, which can also limit breeding populations and impact genetic diversity, making species more vulnerable to extinction, particularly in small, isolated pockets of habitat.
It takes ALL of us to help protect the Daintree. We need your help to protect the vulnerable animals by protecting their home, now and for generations to come.

#ForestFlora: Callicarpa means ‘beautiful fruit’ 💚. This evergreen shrub or small tree is a very useful plant, used in traditional medicine practices of First Nation Peoples. It’s also believed that early settlers utilised the leaves as a mosquito repellent for themselves and their horses.
Today, it`s commonly cultivated as an ornamental in gardens, often selected for its colourful fruits.

#ForestFlora: Today we`re shining the spotlight on the beautiful Black Bean tree (Castanospermum australe) 🔦🌳.
This striking rainforest tree has glossy, dark green leaves and wide-spreading branches when grown in the open.
From March to May, it produces huge seed pods - 12–20cm long - that split open to reveal 3–5 massive seeds, each weighing up to 30 grams 🫘.
