Rainforest Revival Day at Hotel Brunswick was a Great Success!

Hotel Brunswick hosted a great day for Rainforests Rescue and our sister organisation, Big Scrub Landcare in September. It was motivated by the owners who are deeply concerned about the fate of the world’s rainforests. In their words, “In a global climate crisis of our own creation, the revival of rich rainforests is key to our survival. Australia is home to the most ancient and biodiverse rainforests in the world, and as Australians it is essential for us to act together to ensure a greener future for all.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Rainforest Revival Day was a festive fundraiser, initiated, sponsored and hosted by the Hotel Brunswick. Supporting Rainforest Rescue and Big Scrub Landcare, it was a day of information, awesome music, interesting stalls, a dedicated Kids’ Corner, and so much more.

Funds raised were matched by both the Hotel Brunswick and sensational local brewers Stone & Wood, who also featured their famous Karma Keg.

A Welcome to Country led by Joe Gala, Indigenous Elder and Traditional Indigenous Dancer from K’Gari (Fraser Island) led the day followed by speakers representing Australia’s rainforest community, including the co-founder of Rainforest Rescue and President of Big Scrub Landcare, Dr. Tony Parkes, the recent recipient of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to conservation and the environment through the restoration of subtropical rainforest in northern New South Wales. Also on stage was Great barrier Reff Legacy’s founder, John Rumney, who recently received the National Geographic Lifetime Conservation Award for a lifetime dedicated to the Great Barrier Reef. They were joined by Rainforest Rescue CEO, Branden Barber, and were moderated – most engagingly – by the inimitable Mark Swivel.

Q&A with rainforest experts

Mark Swivel, Branden Barber, Dr. Tony Parkes and John Rumney at Rainforest Revival Day 2019

Folks were able to make contributions to help decorate our Tree of Life as well as buy into the giant rainforest raffle with fantastic prizes ranging from local business contributions to Daintree Rainforest adventures.

Kids’ Corner featured face painting, Fauna Fetchers Australian Wildlife show blew us away, and screenings of Fern Gully 1 and 2 were enjoyed by kids young and old.

Kyle Lionhart, Salt and Steel and Mojo Jacket lit up the stage for the evening’s entertainment.

Mark Swivel was the most wonderful MC on this special day, celebrating Australian Rainforests and National Threatened Species Day, and growing the movement towards a more certain future for all life.

We are so grateful to Hotel Brunswick, Stone & Wood, and all our business partners who contributed to our big raffle on the day.

All proceeds were shared between Rainforest Rescue and Big Scrub Landcare – and many new friends were gained on this wonderful day.

Let’s do it again next year!
