Save Cassowary Habitat at Mission Beach
Project Information
The Cassowary is listed as an endangered species. Its estimated that there are less than 1,000 of these magnificent birds remaining in Australia. The number one threat to the Cassowary is destruction of habitat. Mission Beach is a special place where the rainforest grows right down to the sea and where you have the best chance to see a Cassowary in the wild. But time is running out for the Cassowaries at Mission Beach. Key rainforest sites must be secured now before they are developed for housing. The Mission Beach Cassowary Care Project identifies and purchases rainforest habitat at risk of development and then protects it forever in a conservation reserve.
