Lot 117 Spurwood Road, Cow Bay

Lot 117 Spurwood Road (RP 738161) is a 1 hectare protected by Rainforest Rescue in February 2003.

It was the fourth property to be declared a Nature Refuge under the Qld Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is one of eight properties that form the Baralba Corridor Nature Refuge.

The Refuge was named by local Aboriginal people, the kuki yalanji, with the word 'Baralba' meaning 'wildlife track'. The corridor provides a vital link between two isolated areas of the Daintree National Park/World Heritage Area. 


The property is located north of the Alexandra Range in the Cow Bay precinct. 

Conservation values 

Lot 117 Spurwood Road is classified as 'essential habitat' for the endangered southern cassowary (Casuarius casuarius johnsonii) under the Qld Vegetation Management Act 1999. Under the Qld Government's Regional Ecosystem Mapping Scheme vegetation on the property is classified as being of 'of concern' and 'endangered' biodiversity status.
