Resilience
Aboriginal Name: Walbul Walbul
Artist Clan: Kuku Yalanji, Mossman/Daintree
About my Artwork
No matter the circumstance, mangrove trees have proven its resilience time and time again, even on a daily basis. The Mangrove trees live in a harsh environment from daily tidal changes, temperature waters, constant salt exposure to severe storms and cyclones. Its ability to recover from natural disasters and still provide a hunting ground for our Kuku Yalanji people is a true example of ‘RESILIENCE’ in our own lives. Mangrove trees are a known fact of Resilience. Resilience is a great strength. It teaches us to face every set back without falling
'Kurranji' Cassowary
Why I love being part of this campaign
"My family are traditional owners from Daintree and Mossman, we are connected to Our land. It is extremely important to conserve Our land, it is Our family connection, Our culture, Our survival."
About my Artwork
Kurranji means Cassowary in Kuku Yalanji language. The Cassowary Plum is a major source of food for the Cassowary, but it is poisonous to most other animals and humans. The Cassowary is the only animal able to digest the plum and this helps with the spread and germination of the seed. The Cassowary and the Cassowary Plum tree both rely on each other for their survival.
