Daintree Rainforest Plant Nursery

Rainforest Rescue now has a Rainforest Nursery in the Daintree to propagate and grow rainforest trees for revegetation projects. The rainforest trees will be used for our Plant a Rainforest Project and to support the efforts of other landholders in the Daintree. All of the seeds are collected from the Daintree lowland rainforest between the Daintree River and Cape Tribulation and the trees will be replanted in this area. In the last 12 months, the nursery produced 6,891 plants – however we aim to increase productivity to grow 10,000 plants per year.
The rainforest nursery is located in the Daintree National Park, on land owned by the Queensland Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The nursery is managed by Rainforest Rescue’s Nursery Coordinator and volunteers meet every Wednesday afternoon between 2.00 – 5.00pm to propagate and care for seedlings. We also have a series of volunteers who go to the nursery each afternoon to water the plants. The nursery had been managed for many years by the Daintree Cassowary Care Group – a volunteer-managed community organisation. We thank them for the faith shown in Rainforest Rescue to continue their good work and for the gift of the nursery infrastructure and materials.
