Corporate Social Responsibility
Essentially, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the deliberate inclusion of public interest into corporate decision-making, and the honoring of a triple bottom line: People, Planet, Profit. CSR isn’t just about doing the right thing, it also offers direct business benefits.
Building a reputation as a responsible business sets you apart. Many consumers prefer to buy from ethical businesses, and companies often favour suppliers who demonstrate responsible policies, as this helps them to minimise the risk of any damage to their own reputations.

Some customers don’t just prefer to deal with responsible companies, but insist on buying only from ‘environmentally friendly’ businesses. Sales of environmentally-friendly products are continually growing. A recent survey by Roy Morgan research indicates that people worldwide are seeing the environment as ‘the most important issue facing the world’, while the Financial Times reports that sales of products such as solar panels and energy-efficient appliances rose from $6 billion in 2004 to $12 billion last year.
Rainforest Rescue has numerous Corporate Sponsors who are leading their fields in building
environmental protection — an important aspect of CSR - into the way they do business.
“ Byron Bay Coffee Company places great value on their relationship with Rainforest Rescue. Advertising
our partnership assists greatly in our sales, and our company profile, especially as we are involved with
selling Organic and Rainforest Alliance coffee”

Additionally, by choosing the products or services of our Corporate Sponsors, innumerable individuals have leveraged their purchasing power and supported Rainforest Rescue. We can all support businesses that protect the environment, ensuring that our society and economy grows in a way that simultaneously supports our planet.
There are many well-known examples of thriving environmentally responsible businesses, such as
Banrock Station Winery who have built their business and reputation around the restoration of their
wetlands, and who are now using their good-fortune to support huge environmental projects worldwide.
Nike is a great example of society demanding higher standards from socially irresponsible businesses,
and turned around from being a corporation whose name was marred by association with repeated
labour abuses to one recognized as a leader in sustainability.
Some of our own successful Corporate Sponsors are featured elsewhere in the newsletter, including
Huhtamaki and Green Technology Management. In our headquarters’ hometown, The Byron Shire
also has some fantastic examples of such business leaders, including Brookfarm, Byron Bay Coffee
Company and ReTone.
“Our world is becoming a fragile place and each and every one of us has a responsibility to start
seriously looking after our planet. Brookfarms’ work with Rainforest rescue gives our employees and
our customers a great opportunity to become more involved in the work of preserving our precious
Rainforests. By stating our commitment to Rainforest Rescue on every pack of our new product lines
we invite our customers to become involved in this essential work. The end result is a much greater
appreciation of this vitally important work and a real plus for the environment”.
