Daintree Blockade 25th Anniversary Community Forum - Saturday 7 february - 5 pm to 7 pm
|
It has been 25 years since the Daintree Blockade occurred where conservationists from around Australia gathered in protest of bulldozers cutting a swathe through the Daintree in order to construct a highly controversial road that would eventually connect Cape Tribulation to The Bloomfield River.
The confrontation galvanised people’s passion for environmental conservation and shaped the lives and philosophies of many. Ian Cohen (MLC Legislative Council NSW), Mike Berwick (previous Douglas Shire Mayor) and John Seed (Rainforest Information Centre) were involved in the blockade all those years ago and they will be sharing their stories at the Daintree Blockade 25th Anniversary Community Forum on Saturday the 7th of February from 5pm.

Rainforest Rescue’s Daintree Buyback & Protect Forever Project has been buying back rainforest land in the Daintree that is threatened by development since 2000. Rainforest Rescue has focused its efforts on purchasing properties adjacent to the World Heritage Area to protect them as part of the larger forest in perpetuity. To date, ten properties have been rescued and returned to the forest through the Daintree Buyback & Protect Forever Project.
Please come and join us at Brightspace in St Kilda Melbourne for a evening of reflection, celebration and help us to protect the rainforest that is still threatened by development today.
