From little things big things grow
June 22nd, 2009
With the launch of her new beach-friendly footwear range, international supermodel and rainforest campaigner, Gisele Bündchen, is encouraging Australians to help protect far north Queensland’s Daintree rainforest.
To coincide with the launch of Novo shoes’ Seed collection this spring, a proportion of funds raised from selling miniature seed pots will be donated to Rainforest Rescue’s Daintree Buyback and Protect Forever Project. Each seed pot contains a native Australian plant and the money raised from their sale will help protect the Daintree’s rare and threatened plants and animals.
The Daintree rainforests are of international conservation importance as one of the most significant regional
ecosystems in the world. Rainforest Rescue’s projects re-establish rainforests through planting, maintenance and restoration programs, as well as purchasing and protecting high conservation value rainforest and preserving its biodiversity. Giselle and Novo hope the miniature seed pots will one day grow into trees demonstrating that from little things, big things grow.
Over the past 100 years parts of the Daintree have been cleared to create land for farms that are no longer in operation. Replanting these cleared areas with rainforest trees provides important habitat for the endangered Cassowary and 100 other threatened species found in the Daintree.
