Huhtamaki Community Business Partnership
June 3rd, 2009A Community Business Partnership between Huhtamaki and Rainforest Rescue is working towards the long term survival of the Daintree rainforest as part of our ‘Buy Back and Protect Forever’ Project.
Huhtamaki have been supporting this project since 2007, when they donated $25,000 towards the purchase of Rainforest Rescue’s 9th property. As an ongoing commitment, Huhtamaki currently donate a percentage of all their Bioware sales to buying back and protecting the Daintree forever.
Huhtamaki recognise that single use cups, plates, bowls and utensils impact on our environment. That’s why their Bioware range utlitises a process with renewable resources to produce compostable products.
Bioware is completely functional without the raw appearance that is often associated with products made from renewable resources such as palm leaves and corn starch. Extracting the dextrose sugars from plant starches in corn and beets, Huhtamaki are able to produce cold drink cups and tumblers which are glass-clear, rigid and crack resistant — virtually indistinguishable from plastic. Unlike plastic however, when the party is over this material will decompose.
Bioware avoids the dreaded petrochemicals associated with plastic production. It also reduces the demand for virgin paper supplies. After all, whilst paper ware does decompose within several months, it is often coated in materials that do not. And besides, we all know where paper comes from — our precious and diminishing forests.
Bioware is available in all leading supermarkets across Australia and around the world. For more information on Bioware, visit : www.bioware.com.au
