Yossi Speaks for the Rainforests

February 20th, 2009

Yossi GhinsbergInternational best selling author, Yossi Ghinsberg will be sharing his inspirational stories and survival wisdoms with the community on Thursday March 5th, 7pm at the Mullum Civic Hall in Mullumbimby.

Yossi’s first book, ‘Jungle’, based on his harrowing adventures in South America was first published in 1986 and soon became an international bestseller. It has been translated into 10 languages and published in over 20 countries thus far.

In the midst of the uncharted Amazon, after losing his three companions, one man was tested to the extreme, alone and bare to the bone, for three harrowing weeks of sheer survival against all odds. He lived to tell the amazing story as well as how the ordeal profoundly affected his understanding of himself and his life purpose.

Ten years later, Yossi returned to the Amazon and made it his home. Working with indigenous forest dwellers for three years they built Cha-la-lan, a model eco-tourism village that inspired the entire Amazon basin and the world.

While community projects and increasing government intervention is helping to stem rainforest clearing, deforestation in the Amazon basin continues today at an unrelenting rate. Brazil’s National Institute of Space Research estimates that 11,968 square kilometres (1.2 million hectares) of rainforest was cleared in the Amazon between August 2007 and July 2008.

Rainforest Rescue is working with international organisations to protect these precious rainforests from deforestation by purchasing land and by providing local communities with economic alternatives to unsustainable and destructive practices. Join Yossi and Rainforest Rescue for a riveting evening that will profoundly affect the way you see the world and inspire you to take actions that benefit our planet.

Yossi has generously offered to chat following his talk and refreshments will be available to purchase.
Admission is free, doors open 6.30pm and seats are limited. For more information and to register to attend this event, visit http://www.rainforestrescue.org.au or call 02 6684 4360.
