Cassowaries Seen on Rainforest Rescue Nature Refuge
February 3rd, 2009Yesterday Rainforest Rescue employee David Cook observed an adult Cassowary and two chicks emerge from the rainforest at the Rainforest Rescue Nature Refuge and cross Forest Creek Road. “It was raining and the Cassowaries came out of the rainforest right near the Rainforest Rescue Nature Refuge. It was a great feeling to see them in the corridor that we had created by purchasing and protecting these two properties – I was almost incredulous that they should be at the exact spot.”
“It was a real thrill to see them, albeit from a distance and in the same spot as I recently saw the Boyd’s Tree Dragon in late 2008.” David said.
Cassowaries were also observed by David using the Cape Tribulation property purchased by Rainforest Rescue in 2007. On this occasion David saw two adults and once chick and managed to get a photograph.
